UNRWA Has Supply Ready To Send To Gaza Strip After Guarantee Access

JAKARTA - The United Nations Agency for Assistance and Work for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) on Thursday announced it had sufficient food assistance to meet the needs of the entire population of the Gaza Strip over the next three months, as the humanitarian crisis continues to deteriorate.

UNRWA Commissioner General Philippe Lazzarini stated on social media X that the agency has food, medicines, and other basic supplies ready to be sent to Gaza immediately, and is ready to meet the urgent needs of residents once safe access is guaranteed.

"We have enough food to provide food for the entire population over the next three months," Lazzarini wrote, emphasizing the agency's central role in implementing the ceasefire agreement, including providing essential services such as healthcare and education services.

He stressed that more than 660,000 children in Gaza are waiting to return to school, and UNRWA teaching staff are ready to continue their vital role in supporting education in the Gaza Strip.

Lazzarini juga mendesak negara-negara anggota PBB untuk memberikan dukungan yang diperlukan bagi UNRWA untuk memenuhi misinya selama masa kritis ini.

It is known that militant groups Hamas and Israel agreed on the first phase of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, after indirect negotiations that were resumed on Monday in Egypt with US, Qatar and Egyptian mediators.

As part of the deal, a fleet of trucks carrying food and medical aid will be allowed into Gaza for civilians, hundreds of thousands of whom have taken refuge in tents after Israeli forces destroyed their homes and razed the entire city to dust.
