The Crew Of The Ship That Was Thrown Into The Sea Was Finally Picked Up By The DKI Social Service For Return To The Village

JAKARTA A ship member (ABK) looking for squid from Palembang with the initials R (43), who was a victim of torture and attempted murder in the waters of Panggang Island, Thousand Islands, was finally picked up by officers from the DKI Jakarta Social Service (Dinsos) to be sent back to his hometown.

The victim visited the Penjaringan Metro Police after he was rescued by another ship that docked at Muara Angke Pier, Tuesday night, October 7, 2025. The ship that helped R was a squid search vessel, the same type of ship as the previous place where he worked.

After the ship docked, the victim saw the situation was safe and tried to escape because he felt being stalked by two other ship workers. Luckily, the victim managed to get help from officers in the Muara Baru area before finally reporting to the Penjaringan Metro Police.

At the police station, R admitted that he lost all his identity and personal belongings, including cell phones and money from work. He also expressed his desire to make a report on the confiscation and abuse case he experienced. "I want to make a report on the confiscation of cellphones, confiscation of money and beatings," R told VOI, Wednesday night, October 8, 2025.

However, because they did not have an identity and did not have a family in Jakarta, the police then helped by making an introductory letter to the Head of the DKI Jakarta Social Service. The letter stated that R was a resident of 17 Hilir, Ilir Timur I District, Palembang, and did not have the money to return home.

"Please help for further handling. For the assistance and cooperation, we would like to express our gratitude," read the letter signed by KA SPK AKP Edy on October 8, 2025.

After the letter was issued, the victim was picked up by P3S officers from North Jakarta Social Service and taken to a temporary rehabilitation center in the Cipayung area, East Jakarta. From there, the DKI Social Service Agency will facilitate the process of returning the victim to his hometown in Palembang.

Previously, R was known to have been tortured and thrown into the sea by a squid search boat named Putra Tunggal Ika. He admitted that he had suffered a wound on his right leg as a result of being hit by lead from the squid net while working, but instead he did not receive help. For five days, he was not fed until he finally desperate to escape and asked for help.

Now, after going through a series of inspection and handling processes, R finally gets protection and will soon be sent back to his hometown by the DKI Jakarta Social Service Office.
