LPDP Explains The Reason For The Decreased Scholarship Quota In The Middle Of A Surge In Applicants

BOGOR - Education Fund Management Institution (LPDP) revealed the increasingly difficult reasons for obtaining LPDP scholarships in 2025.

Acting President Director of LPDP Sudarto explained that one of the main reasons was the sharp decline in the quota of scholarship recipients, which was only opened to 4,000 people or decreased compared to 2024 which reached 8,592 people.

He explained that this quota restriction policy was the impact of the large increase in the number of recipients in the 2022 '2023 period.

"Finally, the consequences will be in 2025 and 2026, maybe we can only receive a maximum of 4,000 (people)", he said at the 2026 State Budget Complete Qualification Ceremony, quoted Friday, October 10.

Data shows that the number of LPDP scholarship registrants has increased dramatically from year to year, where in 2021 15,466 registrants with 4,266 people were received.

The number of registrants jumped to 25,329 people in 2022, with 6,327 of them accepted.

Next in 2023, registrants reached 33,394 people, and 9,358 passed. The trend of registrants continued to increase in 2024, reaching 52,842 people, but the number of recipients actually fell to 8,592.

Meanwhile, the number of registrants this year jumped to 78,596 people the highest in LPDP history and to date, only 1,665 people have passed the first phase of selection, including the wingship program and priorities, while the second phase of selection is still ongoing.

Sudarto emphasized that this condition made the selection process much stricter and the LPDP wanted to ensure that only the best individuals would be selected, namely those who were able to make a real contribution to Indonesia's future development.

"Those who can really find new ways to build Indonesia in the future," he said.

He also denied that the reduction in quota was caused by budget efficiency in the Endowment Education Fund (DAP).

In the future, Sudarto emphasized that LPDP is committed to adjusting the scholarship strategy so that it is in line with the priority direction of national development.

Sebagai informasi, sejak 2013 hingga 2025 total penerima beasiswa dari Dana Abadi Pendidikan melalui LPDP telah mencapai 55.814 orang.

Di luar itu, beasiswa juga disalurkan melalui Kemendikbud sebanyak 578.554 orang, serta Kemenag sebanyak 40.252 orang.
