Prevent Disease, Undocumented Chicken At KM Sinabung Eradication Of Papuan Quarantine

JAKARTA - The Papuan Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Center destroyed 11 chickens without animal health certificates from their home areas, such as steps to prevent the spread of animal diseases to the local area.

Head of the Papuan Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Center, Lutfie Natsir, said the 11 chickens were previously secured by Pelni from above KM Sinabung after they were found that they did not have official documents required for delivery of animals between regions.

"And according to the provisions of the animals that do not have files, they must be destroyed, both by sea, air, and border," he said in Jayapura, Thursday, which was confiscated by Antara.

He explained that this destruction was the result of a collaboration between Quarantine and Pelni, the Port Authority and Port Authority (KSOP) Office, and the Marine Port Security Implementation Unit (KP3).

"Indeed, monitoring requires the cooperation of all parties, including the community, to break the chain of animal diseases," he said.

He explained that the destruction was carried out based on Law Number 21 of 2019 concerning Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine where this step is an effort to prevent the potential spread of animal diseases that can threaten public health and preserve Papua's natural resources.

"We urge the public and business actors to always complete quarantine documents before sending or importing animals to Papua so that this area remains free from pests and dangerous diseases," he said.

He hopes that public awareness of the importance of compliance with quarantine regulations will increase and strengthen the synergy of supervision at the entrance to Papua.

The destruction was witnessed by representatives of PT Pelni (Persero), KSOP, and KP3 Laut at the West Koya Animal Quarantine Installation (IKH), Muara Tami District, Jayapura City, Monday 6 October.
