Discussions At The 2025 Indonesian Music Conference Are Expected To Give Way Out Regarding Copyright Issues

JAKARTA - Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon in his speech at the opening of the 2025 Indonesian Music Conference (KMI) stated that the Ministry of Culture fully supports efforts to accelerate the music ecosystem.

Meanwhile, KMI this time is part of the Ministry of Culture's commitment to strengthening the foundation of the music industry, uniting the interests of the perpetrators, and placing a long-term direction towards a just music ecosystem.

Fadli Zon emphasized that KMI will discuss data collection issues, polemics, and the welfare of Indonesian musicians, which are still being fought for.

"Starting from the data collection, literacy and education system for music, copyright and musician welfare. Development of infrastructure, strengthening regulations and filings, to the issue of musician welfare," said Fadli Zon at The Sultan Hotel & Residence, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, October 8.

Fadli also highlighted the polemic of music royalties, which has been discussed for the past two years. Through discussions at KMI, it is hoped that a just solution will be found.

"There is also the issue of royalties. This can be discussed later, the governance is not yet optimal," he said. Therefore, KMI is present as a forum and formulation forum for the future provides fair benefits for its creators, to building its ecosystem.

Furthermore, the Minister of Education also talked about music that is not just an industry, but also a cultural diplomacy tool that is able to put Indonesia on par with other nations.

"We want to ensure that music is able to become a strong and sustainable cultural infrastructure. Inter-ministerial policies cooperation in governance, in advancing music as part of Indonesia's national culture," said Fadli.

In addition, he also hopes that problems or challenges related to concerts, recordings, and copyright can find a bright spot through discussions at KMI 2025.

Meanwhile, KMI which was held until October 11 presented participants from the music ecosystem, ranging from musicians, songwriters, promoters or EO, record labels, festival crews, to MSMEs. They will sit down together, hold discussions with regulators attended by more than 10 Ministries and Institutions.

For information, the 2025 Indonesian Music Conference is a continuation of the long journey of Indonesian music which began to be mapped since the Indonesian Music Conference in Ambon in 2018 which was initiated by the late Glenn Fredly.
