DPR Leaders Encourage Government To Pay Attention To Old Islamic Boarding School Conditions

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, emphasized that his party will encourage the government to pay special attention to the condition of Islamic boarding schools throughout Indonesia, especially those whose boarding school buildings are old.

According to Dasco, this is so that the tragedy of the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School, Buduran-Sidoarjo, East Java does not happen again in other Islamic boarding schools.

"We appeal to the government, indeed through the Coordinating Minister, Mr. Muhaimin Iskandar, if possible, it is indeed paying attention to the condition of the buildings rather than pesantren which have been around for a while," said Dasco at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday, October 9.

Dasco said that the funding for the construction of pesantren was still not in one conclusion. However, Dasco said, the DPR would support the government to pay attention to the boarding school according to President Prabowo Subianto's direction.

"But basically the DPR RI will also encourage the government to pay attention to old and old Islamic boarding schools so that they can be helped to anticipate things like what happened yesterday," said Dasco.

Meanwhile, regarding the investigation into the person in charge of the collapse of Al Khoziny's boarding school, Dasco handed it over to the police.

"When it comes to the legal realm, it's a matter for the police, but the important thing is that we mitigate how the existing pesantren don't happen again like that," he concluded.
