Tin Mining Chaos In Babel, Menkop Supports Joining Red And White Cooperatives

JAKARTA - Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono spoke about the chaos of controlling illegal mines in Bangka Belitung.

Ferry said efforts to resolve problems were proposed by the community by granting a Tin Mining Business Permit (IUP) to the Red and White Village/Sub-District Cooperative (Kopdes/Kel).

Responding to him, the Coordinating Minister emphasized that the proposal needed to be responded quickly, so that the problems between miners and companies did not drag on.

"We support that tin miners in Babylon join the Red and White Cooperatives and the Tin IUP is managed by the Red and White Cooperative so that people have legality to manage mines," said Ferry, Wednesday, October 8.

Ferry said that the management of IUP by Cooperatives can be carried out following the issuance of PP No. 39 of 2025 concerning the Second Amendment to PP No. 96 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Mineral and Coal Mining Business Activities.

Ferry said that the management of IUP can be done through outlets in each Kopdes/Kel. There are seven types of mandatory outlets, such as basic necessities outlets, village pharmacies, village clinics, cooperative offices, savings and loan units, cold storage/cold chain outlets, and logistics outlets, which can be further developed according to local potential.

"Every Kopdes/Kel we encourage to develop a business according to local potential. If in that area the potential is mining, the cooperative will develop a mining business license outlet," he said.

He emphasized that government support for KDKMP is not only in terms of institutions, the government also supports the development of investment in the Red and White Cooperative with financing facilities through the Himbara bank.

"With the management of the IUP through the Red and White Kopdes/Kel, we hope that there will be no more mining conflicts in the regions. This conflict is very detrimental to all parties, only preventing the achievement of community welfare. The government, through the Red and White Kopdes/Kel, wants to achieve an economic improvement in rural communities without being disturbed by any activities," said Ferry.

Previously, the miners of the sub-district in Babel requested that the PT Timah IUP be managed by the village community through the Red and White Cooperative which has been established throughout the Bangka Belitung area. This cooperative is expected to improve people's welfare and reduce poverty. In addition, the community also demands reasonable tin prices and people's mining permits (IPR) to be issued immediately to improve the village economy.
