Again, Israeli Right Wing Minister Ben-Gvir Prays At Al-Aqsa Complex, Prays For Victory In Gaza

JAKARTA - Israel's right-wing National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, again prayed at the Al-Aqsa Mosque Complex despite a ban on Wednesday, praying for the victory of Israeli troops in the Gaza Strip, Palestine.

In a video in the corner of one of the most sensitive locations in the Middle East, Ben-Gvir said two years after the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, which sparked the Gaza war, Israel "wins" in the Jerusalem complex known by Jews as Temple Mount and by Muslims as Haram al-Sharif or His Majesty.

The second video shows him praying at the compound, violating provisions that have been in effect for decades that only allow Muslims to worship at the site.

"Every house in Gaza has a Temple Mount image, and today, two years later, we won at Temple Mount. We are the owner of Temple Mount," Ben-Gvir said in a video released by his party, Jewish Power.

"I only pray that our Prime Minister will also allow the full victory in Gaza to destroy Hamas, with the help of God we will repatriate the hostages, and we will achieve a full victory," continued Ben-Gvir.

His remarks were released when Israel and the Palestinian militant group, Hamas, were involved in indirect negotiations in Egypt to release all remaining Israeli hostages in Gaza and end the war there.

Ben-Gvir, known as a hardline long before helping Netanyahu form the far-rightest coalition government in Israeli history, led a pro-common and nationalist-religious Jewish Power party.

He previously threatened to withdraw from PM Netanyahu's government unless Hamas was completely destroyed.

The Al-Aqsa Complex, in Jerusalem's Old City, is the third holiest site for Muslims and the holiest in fire. Under the decades-old "status quo" agreement with Muslim authorities, the Al-Aqsa complex is managed by a Jordanian religious foundation and Jews can visit, but should not pray there.

Ben-Gvir had previously opposed these rules. Last August he prayed there, to be precise to Thasha B'av, prompting PM Netanyahu to issue a statement stating that Israel was committed to the status quo at the Al-Aqsa Complex.
