Balikpapan RDMP Refinery Inaugurated November 10, Pertamina Boss: Equivalent Euro 5 Product

JAKARTA - President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero) Simon Aloysius Mantiri revealed that the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) refinery will be inaugurated on November 10, 2025.

"On November 10, we will start on stream of the Balikpapan RDMP project, namely the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan, which will increase refinery processing capacity," Simon said, quoted Wednesday, October 8.

The Balikpapan RDMP project itself aims to increase refinery processing capacity, which was originally 260,000 barrels per day to 360,000 barrels per day

Simon claims, the product produced by this refinery has the quality of fuel equivalent to Euro 5.

"The products produced will be equivalent to Euro 5, namely sulfur levels below 10 ppm. This is extraordinary," continued Simon.

Simon added, with this increase in production, Simon admitted that oil imports could be suppressed because they managed to improve refinery performance.

Simon also responded to the criticism of the Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadives regarding the construction of Pertamina's long-term refinery.

According to Simon, the criticism submitted by Purbaya is meaningful input for Pertamina in running its business in the future and improving performance.

"Yesterday we heard the Minister of Finance saying that maybe not many refineries were built, of course it was a valuable input for us," continued Simon.

Simon said the Balikpapan RDMP Project was not only talking about capacity building, but also having a big social and economic impact.

The project absorbs up to 24 thousand workers and encourages an increase in the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) by up to 35 percent.

Meanwhile, the contribution to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached a fantastic figure, which was IDR 514 trillion.
