JAKARTA - PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk (WSKT) has again received a new contract in the form of working on the Irrigation Area (DI) Komering Sub in Phase 3 Package I in South Sumatra.

The Rp318.54 billion project has officially added a portfolio in the Water Resources sector.

Director of Operations II Waskita Karya Dhetik Ariyanto explained, the company will work on the remaining area of 8,500 hectares (ha).

"The company is committed to completing DI Komering Sub DI Lemcurang Phase 3 with quality results," said Dhetik in his official statement, quoted Wednesday, October 8.

In the project, Waskita's scope of work includes rehabilitation work and improvement of the Perjaya Dam, primary channels and the Lemcurang secondary channel.

Then, the construction of a new secondary Lemcuran channel system, as well as the secondary channel of Blok G and H debris along with its disposal channel.

Dhetik said that the existence of the irrigation area aims to realize sustainable agricultural development, including through the provision of agricultural land, irrigation facilities and adequate drainage through water supply throughout the year.

If it is functioning, he said, agricultural productivity will certainly increase, because it allows farmers to harvest crops regularly, even in the dry season.

The irrigation system, according to Dhetik, also reduces the negative impact of drought such as crop failure, hunger and poverty among farmers.

"If the harvest increases, farmers' welfare will automatically increase. Not only will they increase their income, their agricultural property value will also increase, thus encouraging the economic growth of local communities," he said.
