FBI Investigate Infiltration Of A Number Of Leading Law Firms In The US

JAKARTA - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Washington is reportedly investigating allegations of infiltration in a number of leading law firms in the United States (US), allegedly carried out by hackers from China.

To Reuters, one of the firms, Williams & Connolly, told hackers had gained access to some of his computer systems, but did not refer to China as the source of the attack.

The leading US firm also stated that hackers managed to access several of its lawyers' email accounts using a zero-day attack.

"The important thing is, there is no evidence that the client's confidential data is extracted from other parts of our IT system, including from the database where the client's file is stored," the firm said.

He said it had taken steps to block the threat, adding that there was no evidence of unauthorized traffic on its network.

But until now, the FBI has not provided any official comments.

This is not the first time a data leak has occurred in the US. Most recently in April, the US Currency Supervisory Office (Office of the Comptroler of the Currency / OCC) reported a major hack that had an impact on the emails of executives and other employees in their institution.

Berdasarkan rilis resminya, pelanggaran ini pertama kali terdeteksi pada 11 Februari, ketika tim OCC menemukan aktivitas suspicious yang melibatkan akun administrator sistem di lingkungan automasi kantor.

From the results of the analysis, the OCC found that the information they had was very sensitive information regarding the financial condition of federally regulated financial institutions, which were used in the OCC inspection and surveillance process.

This report was submitted to the US Congress as a form of compliance with the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA).
