Entering Priority Prolegnas, Commission II Asked To Initiate Changes To The Election Law

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the DPR RI, Zulfikar Arse Sadikin said that his party was asked by the Legislation Body (Baleg) to initiate amendments to the Law on General Elections (UU Pemilu), which is included in the Priority National Legislation Program (Prolegnas).

"Baleg has evaluated the National Legislation Program. I heard, there is a good decision for the 2026 Prolegnas, the Election Bill is again a bill in the Priority Prolegnas, and what is more interesting is that Commission II is asked to initiate the amendment to the Election Law," said Zulfikar at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, October 7.

"In a sense, Commission II which is drafting changes to the Election Law, starting from its academic paper to the draft bill, will later draft Commission II," continued the Golkar legislator.

Zulfikar hopes that the revision of the Election Law can be discussed in early 2026. Thus, the DPR has plenty of time to draft and discuss changes to the law.

"It will be better for all, we will be able to focus more, we will be able to discuss more deeply the changes to the election law," said Zulfikar.

"Thankfully, if our spirit is to amend the election law by including the regional election law in it and the party law in the codification method," he continued.

Zulfikar said that in accordance with the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) of Law 59/2024, if it was to amend the Election Law, the recommended method was a codification.

"Why do we need to go there, because the Constitutional Court itself says that the election is only one regime, there is no more election regime, there is an election regime. In this case, what is handled by Bawaslu is the same as what is handled by Bawaslu in the election, so that makes us have to think in initiating changes to the Election Law," explained Zulfikar.

"We also include the Pilkada Law and the political party law into one script of the Law in the codification method," he concluded.
