PGN Successfully Reduced Carbon Emissions Up To 24,861 Tons Of CO2e
JAKARTA - PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN) reported that the realization of reducing PGN emissions showed a significant upward trend from year to year.
In 2023, PGN managed to reduce emissions by 598.39 tons of CO2e, then increased to 29,722 tons of CO2e in 2024.
As of August 2025, the emission reduction rate has reached 24,861 tonnes of CO2e, or exceeded the company's commitment target of up to 19.7 percent, and is projected to continue to grow until the end of the year.
"The realization of PGN's emission reduction that exceeded the target shows that the company's strategic steps have proven to have a direct impact on the achievement of Pertamina Group's decarbonization," said PGN's Director of Strategy and Business Development, Mirza Mahendra, Tuesday, October 7.
Mirza added that PGN's main commodity, namely natural gas, plays an important role in reducing emissions.
Natural gas is known as energy whose characteristics are cleaner than other fossil energy.
As a transitional energy towards a greener future, optimization of natural gas utilization is carried out through a household gas network (jargas) program, expansion of gas fuel (BBG) and beyond pipeline infrastructure, as well as development of biomethane from organic waste.
The biomethane project is a strategic initiative of the company by building synergies for energy, food, and water transformation. Through this project, PGN utilizes agricultural waste such as from palm oil, straw, and animal waste, which is then used as biogas. After that, biomethane was injected into the existing natural gas pipeline network," Mirza continued.

Mirza continued, the biomethane project has the potential to encourage emission reduction as well as support the circular economy and management of organic waste.
"Thus, this can encourage the growth of food transformation and distribution of clean energy to consumers, which is hoped to be an alternative to green energy," said Mirza.
