Red-Green Chili And Chicken Meat Are The Main Contributors Of Inflation September 2025

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that a number of food and beverage commodities became the main contributor to inflation in September 2025.

Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said that red chilies, broiler meat, and green chilies are the three main commodities that encourage monthly inflation or month-to-month (mtm).

According to Amalia, monthly inflation of red chilies recorded a significant increase of 39.52 percent and green chilies increased by 22.27 percent. Meanwhile, broiler meat contributed to inflation by 8.59 percent (mtm)

"Food and beverage groups month to month experienced inflation of 0.38 percent," he said at the 2025 Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting, Monday, October 6.

However, he said that there were also food commodities that actually reduced the inflation rate because they experienced a decline in prices or deflation, such as Bawang Merah, recorded the deepest deflation of 17.47 percent, tomatoes 12.76 percent, garlic 2.04 percent, and cayenne peppers fell by 2.84 percent.

Amalia added that the price of garlic has decreased for nearly five consecutive months, which shows supply in the market is currently quite stable.

"White garlic in a number of consecutive months has almost 5 consecutive months of decreasing prices. This means that this has experienced deflation for 5 consecutive months, which had experienced inflation for almost 6 consecutive months in October (2024) until May 2025," he said.

In addition, he said that rice is also one of the commodities that helped reduce inflation in September and this is the second time in 2025 that rice prices recorded monthly deflation, after previously occurring in April 2025.

"For the distribution of rice inflation, the deepest deflation is in Aceh, which experienced a deflation of 5.06 percent and the highest rice inflation occurred in South Papua at 0.94 percent month-to-month," he concluded.

For information, BPS reported monthly inflation in September 2025 was at the level of 0.21 percent. This reflects the increase in the Consumer Price Index (JCI) from 108.52 in August to 108.74 in September. This figure reversed from August which saw a deflation of 0.08 percent.
