Jus Bawang Trend Claimed To Be Effective In Wrinkling Hair, This Is What The Expert Says
JAKARTA - Content on TikTok has succeeded in convincing us to try some strange things to look youthful. Now the latest trend is onion juice which is believed to be able to lengthen and nourish the hair.
If you have any doubts about bringing the most odorous vegetables to your shampoo routine, you are not alone.janging and nourishing hair takes patience. But patience now often clashes with instant desire on social media.
The trick of hair growth that goes viral continues, and promises for the short term are often misinterpreted. Jus onion is a natural ingredient that has been used in hair care for generations. Celebrities such as Cardi B also recommend this method for long and healthy hair.
Like many other natural ingredients that were once popular on social media, onion juice has the potential to improve the health of your hair and scalp when added to your routine. But to get the benefits, it's important to understand how it works and what's realistic for you to expect.
"Jus onion has been used as home medicine for years, and there is some evidence behind its benefits," said Dr. Mona Foad, a board-certified dermatologist and founder of Mona Dermatology, quoted from the Glamour page.
Foad explained that onions are rich in sulfur, an important component of keratin, a protein that gives strength to hair.
"When applied to the scalp, this extra sulfur can help strengthen the brittle strands of hair, reduce damage, and support a healthier environment overall for growth," explains Dr. Foad.
Kerry Yates, a triologist and founder of Colour Collective, argues that onions deserve beauty praise.
"The rise of antioxidants and flavonoids, onions offers antimicrobial, anti-famor, and anti-inflammatory benefits," he said.
"Onions are perfect problem solvers for hair challenges like ketambe," he added.

Yates also noted that although it may not necessarily accelerate the growth of your hair drastically, putting onion juice into your routine can increase the glare and general appearance of hair over time.
Some studies suggest onion juice can increase blood circulation to hair follicles, Yates recommends combining them with head skin massages that can encourage hair growth for some people.
However, Dr. Foad noted that the existing data was still not enough to draw meaningful conclusions about onion juice as a treatment for conditions such as alopesia.
"While this is not a drug for medical causes of hair loss, onion juice can be a useful natural way to support hair looking stronger," he said.
Before you take part in the onion juice regimen, it is important to consider the natural characteristics of your hair. Dr. Foad says the type of hair and condition of the scalp can affect how well onion juice works.
Smooth Or Thin Hair
"People with smooth or thin hair may see the most significant increase,"
"Sulfur helps strengthen the hair stems and increase the volume," said Dr. Foad.
Oily Head Skin
Those who have oily scalp can also benefit.
"Jus onion can help rebalance oil production," said Dr. Fuad.
But anyone with a very sensitive or eczema-prone skin should be more careful. Dr. Foad warns that unquenched onion juice can cause itching and irritation. If this is your condition, rosemary oil is a safer addition to your routine, as it is also associated with the benefits of certain hair growth and its composition is more soothing.
"Regarding the type of hair, curly or rough hair, it may be more likely to tolerate onion juice even if it combines it with calming ingredients such as aloe vera or light oil can help offset the drought," says Dr. Foad.
Remember the effects of using onion juice can vary to individuals with similar types of hair and skin conditions. But if used wisely, onion juice can be an addition that helps in your routine.
Rinsing the scalp with homemade onion juice made by smoothing the shallot and filtering it into a thin liquid. This gives the onion nutrition directly to the scalp. However, this can make the hair messy, smell pungent, and irritate if it is not diluted properly using water or other ingredients.
Yates recommends adding argan oil, sandalwood oil, and rice water for complementary and hydrating benefits if you make onion juice at home.
"The most important thing is, if you experiment with your own mixture, always test the past (patch-test) first and use a little to see how your skin responds," says Dr. Foad.
If the do-it-yourself (DIY) sounds troublesome, Dr. Foad says that products that are formulated professionally by extracting onions are much easier to use and more stable. In addition, these products often include ingredients that moisturize and calm to increase your tolerance.
"For most people, products purchased in stores are a more practical starting point," said Dr. Foad.
According to Dr. Foad, consistency is more important than frequency. In general, he said that using a well-diluted home ingredients or products that contain two to three onion juices a week will allow you to reap benefits without burdening your scalp.
Daily use is completely unnecessary and will most likely cause irritation. For a concoction of artificial juice, nates recommends less use, a maximum of one time in two weeks.
"The best approach is to see how your scalp responds and adjusts as needed," said Dr. Foad.
When you use onion juice in your haircare routine, it also recommends including soothing ingredients, such as aloe vera and light oil to minimize drought.
