Zulhas Promises To Turn Waste Into Energy In 2 Years, DPR: Long Time, A Month Too If You Want

Member of Commission XII DPR Syafruddin responded to the statement of the Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) regarding the solution to processing waste into electrical energy in two years. According to him, the target of two years to make this happen is too long.

"For up to two years, it's too late. Modern waste processing technology is now available. So I think it's just a matter of commitment from the government when it comes to realizing it," said Syafruddin Monday, October 6.

The PKB legislator said the government should be able to accelerate the implementation of this solution because technically and technology is no longer an obstacle. If the government wants, according to him, the processing of waste into electrical energy can be done within just one month.

"I'm sure it's possible for a month, as long as Mr. Zulhas wants to," he said.

Syafruddin also emphasized that waste issues have become a national emergency issue that has a direct impact on public health and environmental quality. Therefore, according to him, the solution to converting waste into energy must be accelerated immediately as part of an energy security policy as well as sustainable environmental management.

He also reminded the government not to be trapped in prolonged discourse and bureaucratic debates.

"What the people need is real steps, not promises. Our waste potential is great, if managed properly it can actually be a useful alternative energy source," concluded Syafruddin.

Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Food Zulkifli Hasan described a solution in overcoming the waste problem in Indonesia. He promised the problem could be completed in two years.

"Our waste is 42 percent of the remaining food, of course we have to finish this. There are several ways to solve it, we will finish it in two years. The big one, 1,000 tons one day we will finish it through waste to energy, through incinerators. So dangerous waste that can carry disease but we change it to be useful so electrical energy," Zulhas said in an interview in the media.
