Indian Government-Owned Hospital Fires In Jaipur Release Toxic Gas, 6 Patients Died

JAKARTA - At least six patients died in a fire that hit the intensive care unit (ICU) of Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur, India, Monday, October 6.

ANI news agency quoted from AFP as reporting that the government's main hospital official in the city of Jaipur, Anurag Dhakad said the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.

He explained that initially the fire burned down the ICU room and then spread quickly followed by "leaving poison gas," to the hospital complex.

Police Commissioner Jaipur, Biju George Joseph, said the investigation was being carried out by his party with a main focus on the forensic laboratory of the hospital.

He said that until now the exact cause of the fire was still unknown.

The government of Rajasthan state in Jaipur has also set up a committee to investigate the cause of the fire.
