BMKG Reminds Flood Rob October 7, Residents Of The Coast Of Central Kalimantan Asked To Be Alert

SAMPIT - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of East Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan, appealed to people in coastal areas and riverbanks to be aware of the potential for tidal flooding which is expected to occur on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

"We urge the public, especially in Ujung Pandaran Village and riverbank areas, to be aware of tidal flooding. Hopefully, it will not coincide with land rain," said the Head of BPBD for East Kotawaringin, Multazam, in Sampit, Monday.

The appeal was conveyed by BPBD following up on early warnings from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) regarding the potential for tidal flooding due to the Perigee Phase phenomenon, which is the closest distance from month to Earth which coincides with the full moon phase on October 7, 2025.

This condition has the potential to increase the maximum sea level and trigger coastal flooding in a number of areas of Indonesia, including the coast of Central Kalimantan.

"Based on water level data monitoring and tidal predictions, Central Kalimantan is included in 17 areas that have the potential to be affected by coastal flooding," said Multazam.

Tidal floods can disrupt community activities around ports and coastal areas, such as loading and unloading activities, residential activities, as well as salt ponds and land fisheries businesses.

Therefore, the East Kotawaringin BPBD reminded coastal communities to increase their vigilance, especially if there are signs of rising sea water or inundation around settlements.

"Security factors must be a top priority when the potential for tidal flooding begins to appear, both in coastal areas and along the river," Multazam emphasized.
