Bobby Nasution's Performance Is Highlighted, Ministry Of Home Affairs Calls Regions With High Inflation, Highest North Sumatra 5.32 Percent

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) reminded all regional heads to immediately take concrete steps to suppress the surge in inflation that has occurred in a number of areas.

Secretary General (Sekjen) of the Ministry of Home Affairs Tomsi Tohir emphasized that inflation that penetrates 5% is not a trivial matter, but a danger signal that the local government must immediately respond to.

"Inflation above five percent is a serious signal for local governments to act immediately," said Tomsi at a 2025 regional inflation control meeting in Jakarta, Monday, October 6.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), a number of provinces on the island of Sumatra recorded the highest inflation nationally. North Sumatra occupies the top position with inflation reaching 5.32% (year on year/yoy), followed by Riau at 5.08%, Aceh 4.45%, and West Sumatra 4.22%.

In addition to the Sumatra region, several other regions also show a significant price increase trend, such as Central Sulawesi (3.88%), Jambi (3.77%), Southeast Sulawesi (3.68%), and Papua Mountains (3.55%).

Tomsi assessed that price spikes in a number of these areas should be a serious concern for the governors. He asked regional heads in areas with inflation above 5% to immediately conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the causes, ranging from distribution chains, supply of staples, to coordination between regional agencies.

The problem is that only a few provinces and regencies have high inflation. The regional heads in this red region must work hard. Moreover, other regions can suppress inflation, they should also be able to," he said.

Tomsi added that cross-sectoral cooperation is the key to maintaining price stability in the field. Local governments are asked to strengthen coordination with trade offices, market players, and distributors so that the distribution of goods remains smooth and there is no hoarding.

Tomsi also emphasized the responsibility of maintaining inflation not only in the central government, but also in the regions. If there are agencies that are not active in carrying out price control tasks, regional heads are asked to carry out performance evaluations.

"If the service does not move, it must be evaluated. We all work to keep prices affordable and not burden the community," he concluded.
