Suitcase Containing 1 Kg Of Methamphetamine Detected By Pekanbaru Airport X-Ray Machine, Owner Escapes

PeKANBARU - Aviation Security (Avsec) officers together with Roesmin Nurjadin (RSN) Air Base personnel who were seconded at Sultan Syarif Kasim II Pekanbaru International Airport, Riau, thwarted an attempt to smuggle nearly one kilogram of crystal methamphetamine.

The methamphetamine was found in a suitcase belonging to a passenger with the initials TK who was about to fly to Jakarta using a Pelita Air plane. For this success, the Commander of the Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base, Marsma TNI Abdul Haris, gave his appreciation to all the teams involved.

"This success shows the importance of cross-agency synergy in maintaining air lane security from the threat of drugs," said Abdul Haris in Pekanbaru, Antara, Sunday, October 5.

He explained that suspicion began when the operator of the Avsec X-ray machine detected irregularities in the President's black suitcase in the Baggage Security Check Point (HBSCP) area, last Saturday.

Avsec joint officers together with BKO Lanud RSN then carried out a manual examination.

From the results of the examination, four packs of methamphetamine were found wrapped in clothes weighing a total of 995 grams.

A quick test carried out by Customs and Excise officers and related officials confirmed that the goods were narcotics.

The evidence was then secured at the Avsec office for further investigation involving Avsec, Satpom and Intel Lanud RSN, Customs and Excise, as well as the Riau Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP).

After making the minutes, the evidence was handed over to East Kalimantan I Brantas BNNP Riau for further legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, the perpetrator with the initials TK fled after realizing that his luggage was secured by officers.

Danlanud emphasized his commitment not to provide room for compromise against narcotics criminals.

"I emphasize, there is no compromise on drugs. Roesmin Nurjadin Air Base together with all relevant officials will continue to tighten supervision, strengthen cooperation, and act decisively to save the nation from the dangers of latent drugs," he said.
