Renault Will Lay Off 3,000 Employees, Competition Effects And Lesu Market

JAKARTA - French automaker Renault is reportedly planning to cut about 3,000 employees in supporting functions such as human resources (HR), finance, and marketing. This move is part of a cost efficiency program titled arrow, as reported by French newspaper L Informe, Saturday 4 October.

According to the report, the cuts will be carried out through a voluntary resignation program and cover about 15% of the total staff in the supporting sector.

The layoff (PHK) will have an impact on Renault's headquarters in Boulogne-Billancourt, a Parisian suburb, as well as several other locations around the world.

Reuters also reported that sources close to the company said the final decision regarding the plan would be announced before the end of the year.

Renault himself has confirmed it is considering saving measures, but has yet to determine the exact number of employees to be affected.

"Looking at the uncertainty in the automotive market and the intense competition, we ensure we are reviewing ways to simplify operations, accelerate executions, and optimize fixed costs," a Renault spokesperson said.

By the end of 2024, Renault had 98,636 employees worldwide.

In July, Renault reported a net loss in the first half of 2025 of 11.2 billion euros, including a decrease in investment value of 9.3 billion euros from their partner, Nissan.

Without taking into account the decline in value, Renault's net profit fell drastically to 461 million euros, or less than a third from the same period the previous year. This decline was due to the weakening of the van market, high costs of developing electric vehicles, as well as competitive pressure on the global market.
