Evacuation Early Sunday, Death Toll Of Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School Becomes 37 People

SIDOARJO - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) again found the bodies of 20 victims of the collapse of the Al-Khoziny Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) prayer room, Sidoarjo, from Saturday night to Sunday, October 5 in the morning.

Head of the Surabaya SAR Office Nanang Sigit said the 38th victim was evacuated at 23:26 WIB, and the 39th victim was evacuated at 23:29 WIB.

"The work system is the same, namely by using heavy equipment as an opening access for the SAR team to carry out the evacuation if it is visible," said Nanang in Sidoarjo as reported by ANTARA.

Furthermore, he said, the search and evacuation efforts continued and the joint SAR team managed to evacuate as many as 11 victims.

He explained that at around 3 WIB, the 40th victim was successfully evacuated, followed by the 41st victim at 09 WIB, then the 42nd and 43rd victims in less than three minutes.

Although the field conditions were increasingly difficult, the officers did not stop, at around 00:04 WIB the 44th victim was found, followed by the 45th victim about seven minutes later.

Not long ago, the 46th and 47th victims were also successfully evacuated in succession at 01:46 and 01:53 WIB.

"Process by process is carried out carefully, considering the large number of building materials that still cover the search area," said Nanang.

Then, the team found the 48th victim at 02:37 WIB, then the 49th victim at 09:00 WIB. Shortly after, the 50th victim was successfully evacuated at 03:24 WIB. All the discoveries on Sunday (5/10) in the early hours of the A3 sector.

"The SAR team needs to lift the rubble, cut the frame, then they can evacuate victims from the material pile," explained Nanang.

In the process, he continued, the joint SAR team used heavy equipment and extracting equipment to carry out the evacuation.

Furthermore, Nanang added that the use of heavy equipment had been temporarily suspended to provide space for officers who cut iron and lifted manuals for safety factors.

After successfully evacuating, all the bodies were immediately taken to the Bhayangkara Hospital in Surabaya to undergo the identification process by the East Java Police DVI team.

From the latest findings, the total number of victims of the collapse of the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School prayer reached 141 people. Of these, 104 people survived, and 37 others died.
