Magic! 'Gypsy Teacher' Appears Again After 48 Years In Synchronize Fest 2025

JAKARTA - History was created in the second day of Synchronize Fest 2025, when the special Gypsy Guruh' performance was shown at Gambir Expo Kemayoran, Central Jakarta on Saturday, October 4 evening.

Gypsy Teacher itself is a studio album released in 1977 through the collaboration between Guruh Soekarnoputra and the band Gipsy consisting of Keenan Nasution, Chrisye, Abadi Soesman, Roni Harahap, and Oding Nasution.

For the first time since this album was released, the works in it were performed live by the Guruh, Sixth, and Eternal personnel at the music festival.

This special performance began with a lion dance performance accompanied by music from a combination of Balinese orchestras and gamelans.

Several guest performers were also presented, such as Bubi Sutomo, Andy/Rif, Irang Arkad, Karisk, Badminton Nasution, Biko Nasution, Kompyang Raka, and Harry Murti.

Some of the numbers performed include Smaradhana, Janger 1897 Saka, Barong Gundah, to Indonesia Maharddhika.

Before appearing, the 'Teacher Gipsy' personnel took the time to talk to the media crew. Guruh saw the appearance of this album after a long time not being separated from God's intervention.

"All of this, for me, is God's design," said Guruh.

Furthermore, the son of President Soekarno explained that the work of 'Gypsy Teacher' was actually dedicated to Indonesia, through its critical lyrics.

"This is an offering for our beloved Indonesia. Because in the 'Gypsy Teacher' it actually all contains criticism for the state of the country and nation, starting from that time, and which until now even some things can be worse, "said Guruh.
