2025 Sambo World Championships: Amelia Devy Adds Indonesian Medal
JAKARTA Amelia Devy managed to add one bronze medal for Indonesia at the 2025 World Championships Sambo Youth and Junior or the 2025 World Youth and Junior Sambo Championship.
The 2006-born athlete had to take home bronze after losing against FIAS1's Kira Safonova in the women's +80 kilogram junior number on Saturday, October 4, 2025.
Devy said that this achievement was a surprise for himself because he did not have a medal target in the prestigious championship.
"So, of course, I am very happy because the training has finally paid off. Hopefully in the future my appreciation can increase far above this," said Devy after competing.

Previously, Indonesia had donated one medal on the first day, Friday, October 3, 2025, through the Handezka Vaktorias athlete who fell in the men's 64 kg sambo junior combat class.
Handezka started the competition with a landslide victory over Morocco's Wail Laarif athlete. This victory led Handezka to advance to the semifinals to meet the Prophet Dzhabrailov from Turkmenistan.
Handezka showed tight resistance against Dzhabarilov. However, in that duel Handezka had to admit his opponent's advantage with a narrow score of 0-1 only.
The manager of the Indonesian sambo team, Nurfimanwansyah, said that the achievement of these two bronze medals was completely beyond the target of the Indonesian Sambo Association (PB Persambi).
"This is an extraordinary achievement because if you look at athletes from other countries, it is very good. Moreover, our preparation until the championship takes place has not been maximized. We admit that," he said.
Indonesia still has the opportunity to increase its gain on the last day of implementation, Sunday, October 5, 2025. In total there are still seven numbers that are still followed by Indonesian representatives, both teenagers and juniors.
"Tomorrow there are still remaining matches being played. So, hopefully we can still be lucky. God willing, there will be an opportunity to add medals," said Nurfimanwansyah.
He further hopes that in the future the sport of sambo can exist more so that when there is a championship, many sponsors are interested in providing support.
"Thank you very much, of course, to sponsors who want to support us with broad chest and mind because they see the development of sambo in Indonesia so that they are willing," he said.
