Incentives Unclear, Honda Predicts Sales Of Electric Motors Only 40 Thousand Units In 2025

JAKARTA Astra Honda Motor (AHM) estimates that sales of electric motorcycles in Indonesia in 2025 will not be as much as the previous year. This is because there is no clarity regarding the incentives for electric motorcycles in 2025.

As a result, sales of electric motorcycles also decreased, including AHM. Marketing Director of AHM, Octavianus Dwi Putro, said that the total sales of electric motorcycles from all brands may only be in the range of 40 thousand units.

"This year, my projection is that sales of electric motorcycles can be 40,000 units for the total market, yes, from all brands," he told reporters at ICE BSD, Tangerang, some time ago.

Based on data from the Two-wheeled Electric Motor Vehicle Purchase Assistance Information System (Siapira), in 2024 the number of electric motors receiving subsidies will reach 62,541 units. If Honda's predictions are proven, then sales of electric motors can drop to around 36 percent.

Octavianus said that his party was still trying to maintain market interest by providing promos and discounts. "Since there was no incentive, there has been a slight correction. That's why we from Honda gave several other efforts, including discounts," he said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Minister of Industry, Faisol Riza, said that the incentives for electric motorcycles should have been issued by 2025. However, he has not detailed the form or time of implementing the policy.

"This year should be issued (electric motor incentives)," said Faisol Riza.

Until early October 2025, President Prabowo Subianto and his ranks of ministers have not decided on the continuation of electric vehicle incentives.

This uncertainty makes the automotive industry, including Honda, hope that the government will immediately provide certainty so that the target of accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia is not hampered.
