JAKARTA - The Depok City Government, in this case the Department of Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries (DKP3) together with the Indonesian Veterinary Association (PDHI) held the Depok Animal Expo as part of a series of World Rabies Day commemorations.
The activity, which was held in Depok Town Square (Detos), on October 3-5, 2025, became an educational event, gathering, as well as socializing the importance of maintaining the health of pets.
Depok Mayor Supian Suri, who was present at the event expressed his appreciation to PDHI, DKP3, and sponsors for the implementation of activities that were considered beneficial to the community. According to Supian, the health of pets is closely related to the health of animal lovers.
"This effort is important so that pets stay healthy, while protecting the public from the risk of disease such as rabies. Therefore, animal vaccination is something that must be done," said Supian when officially opening Depok Animal Expo in Depok Town Square, Depok City, Friday, October 3.
In addition to displaying various types of pets, Depok Animal Expo also opens people's insights about the pet care world. Starting from the existence of animal hotels, 24-hour cat clinics, to business opportunities in the animal care sector, which are now increasingly in demand.
Many residents just found out, for example, there is a cat-specific hotel in Depok which is full on weekends or long holidays. This can be an investment opportunity as well as a new space for animal lovers," he added.
This activity is a concrete step by the city government in efforts to prevent and control rabies disease. With the increasing number of pets being vaccinated, the risk of rabies transmission can be suppressed.
"To jointly we inject our animal rabies, so that we create healthy animals, our favorite animals are healthy, and God willing, we will make Depok healthy," concluded the Mayor of Depok.
The Depok Animal Expo event is expected to be a collaborative momentum between the government, animal-loving communities, and the general public to create a safe and healthy environment, free from rabies.
This event also highlighted the importance of handling stray cats in urban areas. The government plans to add animal shelters so that street cats get vaccinations, treatments, as well as love like pets.
Depok is currently free of rabies. Our challenge is how to maintain this condition in the future, of course with the support of veterinarians, communities, and animal-loving volunteers," Supian said.
With the Depok Animal Expo, it is hoped that the public will be increasingly aware of the importance of animal health, rabies prevention, and great opportunities in the pet industry sector.
Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture who attended the event appreciated the Depok City Government for successfully obtaining the rabies-free predicate.
"Nationally, there are 8 provinces that are free of rabies. West Java itself is actually not free of rabies, but Depok city can be free of rabies, this is an achievement.
