Despite The War, Ukraine's 2025 Gas Stock Supply Turns Out To Be From Russia

JAKARTA - The war between Russia and Ukraine is still raging. Despite the feud, it turns out that Ukraine still uses gas from Russia for its domestic needs.

According to ExPro Consulting gas market data quoted from Tass on Saturday, October 4, more than 70 percent of the gas purchased by Ukraine in 2025 came from Russia.

Gas from Russia flows to Ukraine via Slovakia and Hungary. Russia's gas supply for the two European Union countries was the highest in July 2025 with a total of 568.8 million cubic meters.

As of October 1, 2025, the stocks of Slovak and Hungary gas as much as 12.86 billion cubic meters have been injected into Ukraine's underground gas storage. Gas reserves in storage reached 12.4 billion cubic meters a year earlier.

ExPro Consulting said the 2025 indicators are generally in line with last year's indicators.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, 13.2 billion cubic meters of gas should be stored for normal purposes during the warm-up season.

ExPro Consulting revealed that Ukraine lacked gas reserves last year and began emergency imports from the European Union in mid-January 2025. Experts expect conditions to be more or less the same in the coming warm-up season.
