Social Minister Encourages Audit Of Construction Of Islamic Boarding Schools Throughout Indonesia
JAKARTA - Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Saifullah Yusuf called on Islamic boarding schools throughout Indonesia to begin conducting audits of the feasibility of their construction in order to prevent the recurrence of collapsed building incidents at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School.
"There is enthusiasm that we can take here, that for pesantren it is better to also start auditing the structure of the building. Learning from this experience, yes, pesantren can start auditing, using professional consultant services, assisted by local governments," said the Minister of Social Affairs as reported by ANTARA, Friday, October 3.
With a building audit, according to Social Minister Saifullah, the risk of collapse can be minimized, especially in Islamic boarding schools that accommodate thousands of students. This is important because many Islamic boarding schools are built independently of the community, so that they do not go entirely through technical processes that comply with modern construction standards.
The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) provides emergency support at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School location. The support is in the form of public kitchens, tents, clean water, clothes, medicines, and mobilizes personnel for Disaster Preparedness Cadets (Tagana).
In addition, students who are injured and victims who die will also receive assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs according to the applicable index.
The Ministry of Social's public kitchens provide three meals with 4,500 servings of food for volunteers, families, and students who are still around the location.
Basarnas reported temporary data as of Friday (3/10) at 11.45 WIB, the number of affected victims reached 166 people. Of that number, 111 people have been found, with details of 14 people still being treated, 89 people returning home, and nine people dying.
