Minister Gus Irfan Wants Queues For Prospective Hajj Pilgrims Regulated For 26.4 Years

JAKARTA - Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf or Gus Irfan wants to apply a model of equitable queues for prospective pilgrims. That way, everyone has to wait 24.6 years if they want to go to the Holy Land.

This was conveyed after an audience with the leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) at the KPK's Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Friday, October 3.

"We want to use the basis of the queue. If we use the queue completely, there will be equity throughout Indonesia, the queue will be 26.4 years. Unlike today, some are 18 years old, some are 40 years old," said Gus Irfan to reporters.

Even so, Gus Irfan said the proposal must obtain approval from the DPR.

"Hopefully it can be done there or there may be other alternatives that can still be recognized in the law, namely a mixture of use based on queues or based on the number of Muslim populations," he said.

Gus Irfan also had time to talk about the distribution of 221,000 hajj quotas in 2026. He said, of that amount the distribution would be carried out according to the rules, namely 92 percent for regular quotas and 8 percent for special quotas.

Even so, he also explained that his party had submitted a proposal to the DPR so that the regular quota could be divided per province.

"Yesterday, we proposed to the DPR the use of the 92 percent distribution to these provinces, we will reuse them to the existing rules in the law," concluded Gus Irfan.
