Corruption In East Java Grants, KPK Ensures To Find Khofifah's Role

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is currently investigating the corruption case of grant funds in East Java, including the alleged active role of Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa. This investigation highlights the origin of the main funds for activities (pokir) sourced from the East Java Provincial Government's Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD).

Until now, the KPK has not named Khofifah as a suspect. However, the investigation into the executive role, including meetings between the governor and the legislature regarding the allocation of grant funds, became the main focus of the investigation team.

"So, we are also following the origin of this poor fund. Investigating how the distribution, the arrangement, and others, how the meetings between the executive and the legislature and how to distribute, the percentage, and others," said Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK, Asep Guntur Rahayu, Thursday, October 2.

This case previously developed after the KPK named 21 suspects in connection with the alleged corruption of East Java grant funds. The development of the case began with a hand arrest operation in December 2022, which ensnared the Deputy Chairperson of the East Java DPRD for the 2019-2024 period, Sahat Tua Simanjuntak.

In the disclosure on June 20, 2025, the KPK said that the disbursement of these grant funds temporarily occurred in around eight districts in East Java. The funds are suspected of flowing to various community groups with a distribution mechanism that is currently being investigated in depth by KPK investigators.

This case is in the public spotlight because it involves high regional officials and has an impact on public budget management. The KPK emphasized that the disclosure of this alleged corruption is expected to provide a deterrent effect on the misuse of grant funds in the future.
