The Indonesian National Team Manager Expressed The Reason Marselino Ferdinand Was Not On The Call List

JAKARTA - Marselino Ferdinand is not included in the list of players called by the Indonesian national team for the 2026 World Cup Qualification as well as the 2025 SEA Games. Regarding this matter, Sumardji as the manager of the Indonesian national team explained the reason.

Marselino previously played for English club Oxford United and was then loaned to US Trencin.

Traveling at the club, Marselino has a pretty good record. He is also a player who is often called up to defend the Indonesian national team.

However, under the tutelage of Patrick Kluivert, Marselino was not included in the Garuda Squad's list of players for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers fourth round.

He is also not on the list of players for the U-23 Indonesian national team who will be trained by Indra Sjafri for the 2025 SEA Games.

The manager of the Indonesian national team, Sumardji, then explained the reason why Marselino was not in the senior squad and U-23. He explained that this was related to Marselino's situation being recovering after suffering an injury.

"Lino (Marselino Ferdinand) yesterday I met him being treated, still in the healing process due to hamstring when yesterday I last fought Lebanon, yes."

"Yesterday I asked Lino, how are the developments? What do you feel? If you make a kick, shoot hard, it still hurts. Oh, that's it," said Sumardji in a statement before leaving for Saudi Arabia, Thursday, October 2, 2025.

The 21-year-old last defended the Indonesian national team on FIFA Matchday last month. Marselino played 25 minutes when Indonesia won 6-0 over China Taipei and got 30 minutes of playing when the Red-White Team drew against Lebanon (0-0).

While the last time to strengthen the U-23 Indonesian national team was during the Olympic qualifiers against Guinea on May 9, 2024. Marselino also helped strengthen the U-23 Indonesian national team when they won the 2023 SEA Games gold.

Two years ago, Marselino played five times with two goals and one assist at the Southeast Asian multi-branch level.
