5.0 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Turkey, Residents Run To The Streets
JAKARTA - An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale rocked buildings in Turkey's largest city, Istanbul, on Thursday, causing several people to run to the streets.
There were no immediate reports of serious damage to the city of 16 million people, Istanbul's Governor's Office in X said, adding the field team had started inspections.
As reported by Reuters, the earthquake occurred at 14.55 p.m. local time, Thursday, October 2, in the Sea of Marmara, southwest of Istanbul and near the coastal city of Marmaraereglisi, along the geological fault line that has long been considered risky for the city.

In April, more than 150 people were injured when they jumped from the building after the Richter-scale 6.2 earthquake in Istanbul, marking one of the city's strongest earthquakes in recent years.
Two years ago, Turkey experienced the deadliest and most destructive earthquake in its modern history. The 7.8-scale Richter earthquake in February 2023 killed more than 55,000 people and injured more than 107,000 people in southern Turkey and northern Syria.
