Linguists Presented Rizieq: Incitement Is Different From Invitations
JAKARTA - Linguist from the University of Indonesia (UI) Frans Asisi Datang said there is a difference in meaning between incitement and invitation. Because the context of incitement has a negative impact.
This affirmation was delivered by experts when Rizieq Shihab alluded to the invitation of diversity activities in the context of incitement or invitation. Frans called the invitation of religious activities in the context of invitations. Because, it does not cause negativity.
"Whether religious invitations regardless of religion whether it is for invitations to pray in mosques or services in churches or worship in temples, temples and so on. Religious invitation to perform a ritual can it be categorized as incitement alone?" asked Rizieq in a hearing at the East Jakarta District Court, Monday, May 17.
"Incitement is very different from invitations. So the religious invitation can not be categorized as incitement," replied Frans.
In the trial, Frans also briefly explained if incitement has an element of anger. This is called giving rise to negative elements.
"The word incitement with the invitation of two words that are different meanings at all. Inviting means to attend meetings, banquets, and so on, while incitement means more to arouse people's hearts to be angry, two different things," jelas Frans.
In fact, Frans also emphasized the difference between incitement and invitation. If the invitation is categorized as sedition, there should be an impact of rule violations.
"Going back to the term inciting yes, it's inviting not inciting. Another problem if inciting not to wash hands, no matter the problem of COVID, do not have to wash hands, do not wear a mask, it's a fool for all of us, makes us blocked to friendship, for example there is such a saying," he said.
As for incitement, continued Frans, there must be a common thought between the instigator and the instigated to achieve a goal.
"It's sedition because it makes people angry with certain parties, for example the government, and take action or attitude so that from the incitement it is expected that the purpose there is an attitude. So between the instigator and the instigated there is the meeting of mind," said Frans.
