Sales Of Lesu Cars, Gaikindo Signals That The 2025 Target Can Be Revised

JAKARTA - Car sales in Indonesia throughout 2025 have yet to show significant improvements. The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) has even opened up the possibility to revise the annual target if market conditions do not improve.

Chairman I of Gaikindo, Jongkie D. Sugiarto, said that his party was still monitoring sales trends until the end of the year.

"Yes, not yet (revision). We'll see later, if revision is needed, yes revision," he said when met in Jakarta, Monday, October 29.

Based on allesales Gaikindo data, in August 2025 the distribution of cars from factories to dealers only reached 61,789 units, down 19 percent compared to the same period last year which reached more than 76 thousand units.

Meanwhile, retail sales or from dealers to consumers also weakened by 13.4 percent, only touching 66,478 units compared to August 2024. Although on an annual basis it weakened, there were slight improvements on a monthly basis.

The distribution of wholesales increased slightly by 1.5 percent compared to July 2025 which was 60,878 units. Likewise, retail sales rose 5.7 percent from 62,922 units to 66,478 units in August.

Cumulatively, throughout January August 2025 wholesale sales fell 10.6 percent to 500,951 units. Retail sales also shrank 10.7 percent with a total of 522,162 units.

With an annual target of 850 thousand units, the automotive industry still needs an additional 350 thousand units by December 2025. This figure is considered difficult to achieve, given the volatile sales trend.

"I want to be able to go up, in the last few months. Everything, not just Gaikindo, industry, APM trading, dealers, wants it to go up if possible," said Jongkie.

However, his party tries to be realistic in assessing that this year's achievements may not reach the initial target.

"If it's been a full year, it could be 750 thousand units to 800 thousand units, that might be realistic. Maybe that much," he concluded.
