Lennox Lewis Advises Oleksandr Usyk To Retire

JAKARTA Former heavyweight world champion, Lennox Lewis, advised Oleksandr Usyk to immediately retire when he was at the top of his career.

Usyk hasn't had another fight since he beat Daniel Dubois to become the second undisputed world champion while keeping the record unbeaten in July 2025 at Wembley, London, England.

Boxers from Ukraine still have a number of duel agendas, including mandatory matches for the WBO belt. However, he has hinted that he will only have one more game and retire after.

"So, I will tell him to retire according to his own time, but it's best to retire at the peak of his career as I did," Lewis said.

Lewis decided to leave the boxing ring when he was at the top of his career and was considered one of the best heavyweights on the planet.

The British fighter had his last fight when he defeated Vitali Klitschko, who later became the dominant heavyweight world champion.

"When a person wants to retire, it has to depend on himself. He has to feel the urge that he really wants to retire," Lewis said.

Usyk grabbed his first undisputed heavyweight world champion last year after beating Tyson Fury. The title made him the first boxer to win that status since Lewis 1999.

He then beat Dubois for the same status for the second time and the third time overall in his career, including in cruiserweight.

Usyk, 38, should have fought Joseph Parker for a mandatory WBO match. However, he asked for an extension of the negotiation time because he still needed injury recovery.

Therefore, Parker decided to take the ring against Fabio Wardley in October 2025. The winner of the fight will challenge Usyk.
