The Government Ensures That No Indonesian Citizens Become Victims Of The 6.9 M Earthquake In The Philippines
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that no Indonesian citizens (WNI) were victims of the 6.9 magnitude earthquake that rocked Cebu, Philippines, on Tuesday 30 September.
"Until now there is no information about Indonesian citizens who are victims of the earthquake," said Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha in Jakarta, Wednesday night, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 2.
The earthquake occurred at 21:59 local time and was centered in the Visayas area.
According to Philippine authorities, at least 27 people were killed and more than 147 others injured.
Guncangan also caused damage to buildings, infrastructure, and power outages, especially in Bogo City and San Remigio.
Judha said the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) in Manila had coordinated with local authorities and the Indonesian community in the Philippines.
"So far, the Indonesian Embassy has recorded that one house belonging to an Indonesian citizen in Bogo City has been damaged, but there have been no reports of casualties," he said.
The Indonesian Embassy continues to monitor the development of the situation and is ready to provide assistance to affected Indonesian citizens.
The Philippines is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, an earthquake-prone area and a volcanic eruption. Strong earthquakes often occur in the country, which keeps vigilance high.
