Google Drive Presents AI-Based Ransomware Detection To Protect User Data
JAKARTA - Google has officially introduced artificial intelligence (AI)-based ransomware detection features on Google Drive to improve user and organizational data security. This technology is designed to prevent file corruption due to cyberattacks by stopping suspicious synchronization, providing warnings, and offering easier recovery processes compared to expensive third-party services.
Ransomware itself is known as one of the most dangerous forms of cyberattacks. This type of attack works by locking the system and encrypting files, then the attacker demands a ransom so that victims can regain access to their data. In many cases, this attack is equipped with a time limit that puts data at risk of being lost forever if the ransom is not paid.
Google explains that it has built a dedicated AI model trained using millions of real ransomware samples. The system is capable of detecting signs of maliciously modified files, as well as adapting to new ransomware variants through a continuous analysis of file changes and the integration of threat intelligence from the Total Virus.

When Drive detects unusual activity indicating ransomware attacks, the system will automatically stop syncping affected files to prevent data damage from spreading and disrupting work, Google wrote in its official statement.
After that, users will receive a warning via email containing a guide to recover their files. Google insists that this process is made easier and more intuitive than third-party solutions that are often complicated and expensive.
Currently, AI-based ransomware detection features on Google Drive are still available in the open trial phase (open beta). Later, this technology will be rolled out to most of Google Workspace's commercial packages at no additional cost.
The presence of this feature is expected to provide extra protection for individuals and organizations, especially in the midst of increasing cases of ransomware attacks that often target vital institutions such as hospitals and government institutions.
