Brave Launches "Ask Brave", AI-Based Search To Compete With Google
JAKARTA - Brave has introduced Ask Brave, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based feature in its search engine that combines fast answers with deeper search results, while maintaining user privacy. This feature is available on various browsers and platforms, and aims to compete with Google by integrating traditional searches with AI-based responses.
Google has dominated the search world through Google Search for decades. Although there are some competitors who have emerged over time, no one has been able to match their reach. However, Brave hopes to change that by launching a new feature called Ask Brave on its search engine, Brave Search.
For those who are not familiar, Brave is a company that focuses on privacy-first products. Brave also challenges Google in several fields, such as the Brave browser that competes with Chrome, as well as Brave Search as an alternative search engine.

With this new feature, Brave says that Ask Brave is available on various browsers and platforms because it is integrated directly into their search engine. According to Brave, "With Ask Brave, users no longer need to choose between different tools based on the actions they want to take, such as switching between traditional search engines with a list of links or interfaces such as chats with long text."
Brave solves this problem by offering a system that incorporates the advantages of both approaches, eliminating the need to switch between platforms or traversing. Ask Brave provides a comprehensive answer to each question, coupled with accessible elements such as video, web page, and product with only one click or touch.
This is not the first time Brave has integrated AI into its products and services. The company already has other AI tools, such as AI Answers, which is Brave's answer to Google's AI Overviews feature.
According to Brave, AI Answers generates about 15 million answers per day. However, this is not enough to bridge traditional searches with responses generated by large language models (LLMs). This is where Ask Brave plays a role. "Ask Brave is here as an addition to AI Answers, which is designed to provide quick answers, while Ask Brave offers more in-depth results," the company said.
This combination approach comes from the philosophy of when you need it. Although big language models (LLMs) are very sophisticated, sometimes the use of AI can feel excessive or, like the so-called Brave, boros and annoying'. For those who want to try this feature, you can access it directly from the Brave search page. Alternatively, if Brave Search is your default search engine, just add it ? at the end of the query to enable Ask Brave.
In line with its privacy approach, Brave guarantees that user questions and conversations will not be used to train AI models. Chats are also encrypted and will expire by default after 24 hours.
With Ask Brave's launch, the company is working on providing a smarter and privacy-friendly alternative search, challenging Google's dominance in the realm of search engines.
