Kali Balau Bridge Often Drowns During Rain, Bandarlampung City Government Conducts Massive Rehabilitation

LAMPUNG - The Bandarlampung City Government has accelerated the rehabilitation of the connecting bridge between residents above the Balau River, Peace District, which has often drowned during heavy rains and triggered flooding.

"We will raise this bridge and strengthen it again so as not to hinder the river flow below it," said Bandarlampung Mayor Eva Dwiana in Bandarlampung, Antara, Wednesday, October 1.

Eva hopes that the construction of the bridge will be completed soon so that local residents can return to using it safely.

Head of the Bandarlampung City Public Works Agency, Dedi Sutiyoso, said the progress of the bridge construction had reached 20 percent. Currently, the work is focused on casting bridge legs.

"The target is to finish this bridge in December 2025, or even sooner if everything goes smoothly," said Dedi.

Apart from being elevated, the bridge will also be widened to make it safer for residents as well as facilitate the flow of water during the rainy season.

Dedi added that the Bandarlampung City Government is also conducting dredging and cleaning of rivers in the East Betung Bay area as a measure to anticipate flooding.

"Not only in peace and East Betung Bay, a number of taluds have also been and are being repaired in an effort to anticipate flooding," he said.
