Spotify CEO Daniel Ek Lengser, Gustav Sodderstr\"om And Alex Norstr\"om Become Substitutes
JAKARTA - World's leading music streaming platform Spotify announced a change in leadership structure at their company on Tuesday, September 30.
Valid from January 1, 2026, Daniel Ek, founder and CEO of Spotify, who has served for approximately 20 years, announced his resignation as company leader and shifted to a new position, namely as Executive Chairman.
Furthermore, Daniel appointed two of his colleagues, Gustav Sodderstr\"om and Alex Norstr\"om as his successors to the company. Previously, Gustav was a Co-President and Chief Product and Technology Officer while Alex Norstr\"om was a Co-President and Chief Business Officer.
Spotify Council Director Woody Marshall said the change had been planned for a long time and the company believed in their performance, especially since they have been on Spotify for a dozen years.
"We believe Alex and Gustav are able to bring Spotify to its next level. They have worked in the company for more than fifteen years each and have played an important role in pushing Spotify's success to lead our industry," he said.

With his new position, Daniel Ek will focus more on capital allocation, Spotify's long-term map, and accompanying the senior team.
"Over the last few years, I have submitted most of the daily management and strategic directions to Alex and Gustav. This change only adjusts the status to the workings that have been going on," said Daniel.
The change of leadership comes amid controversy on Spotify, in which hundreds of musicians announced their resignation from the platform after Daniel Ek was caught disbursing nearly $700 million in investment funds for AI-based weapons companies intensively.
