Italian PM Supports Trump In Ending Gaza War

vJAKARTA - The Office of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated that the Italian government supports a 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza proposed by United States President Donald Trump.

"The Italian government has long been committed to supporting all efforts to end the war in Gaza and securing the release of the hostages," the statement said.

"Finally, hostilities are also crucial to address the dire humanitarian crisis that has an impact on the civilian population in the Gaza Strip, which is a tragedy that is completely unjustified and unacceptable," he continued.

The Italian government said Trump's proposal could be a turning point in the process, allowing permanent cessation of hostilities, the immediate release of all hostages, and full and safe humanitarian access to civilians.

The plan, which Italy welcomes, presents ambitious projects for the stabilization, reconstruction and construction of the Gaza Strip, with the full involvement of regional partners.

"In this context, Italy is ready to carry out its role, with close coordination with the United States and European and regional partners, and thanked President Trump for his mediation efforts and efforts to realize peace in the Middle East," he said.

Therefore, Italy urges all parties to take advantage of this opportunity and accept the plan.

Italy's Hamas started the war with the October 7, 2023 attacks, now having the opportunity to end it by releasing the hostages, accepting not to play a role in Gaza's future, and by fully stripping.

In addition, Italy will also support Washington's efforts to restart dialogue between Israel and Palestine to agree on a political horizon towards peaceful and prosperous coexistence.

"A just and lasting peace in the Middle East is possible, with the State of Israel and the State of Palestine living side by side peacefully and safely, and with full normalization of Israel with Arab and Islamic countries," the statement said.
