Residents Reach 174 Thousand, Pramono Decides Expansion Of Kapuk To 3 Villages

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung decided to expand Kapuk Village, Cengkareng District, West Jakarta to 3 urban villages.

This is stipulated in the Governor's Decree (Kepgub) Number 850 of 2025 which was signed by Pramono as of September 23, 2025.

During his inauguration, Pramono admitted that he only found out that Kapuk Village had a large population when he received a report from the Mayor of West Jakarta.

"As soon as I found out the population was 174 thousand, I immediately studied and decided in the meeting, it was time to make a living," said Pramono at the Kapuk Village Office, West Jakarta, Tuesday, September 30.

In fact, according to Pramono, the number of residents living in Kapuk Village is currently more than the total population in 15 sub-districts in Jakarta.

"So, I don't know and I also don't want why it wasn't decided in the past, but I think it's time to decide," said Pramono.

Thus, Kapuk Village will be divided into three regions, namely Kapuk Village, South Kapuk Village, and East Kapuk Village.

Pramono said that currently the DKI Provincial Government is still waiting for a follow-up from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to determine the regional codes for the two new urban villages that are based from Kapuk Village.

"Formally juridically, the two villages will only officially operate after the regional code is issued from the Ministry of Home Affairs," said Pramono.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of West Jakarta, Uus Kuswanto, revealed a portrait of Kapuk Village before the expansion. Where, the total population is 174,349 people with 221 RTs and 16 RWs.

Kapuk Village has an area of 572.62 hectares with a density of 34,014 people per square kilometer.

If converted into 3 urban villages, Kapuk Village (induk) will have 59,176 residents in 52 RT and 3 RW, Kapuk Timur Village has 36,203 residents in 68 RT and 6 RW, and South Kapuk Village has 75,998 residents in 101 RT and 8 RW.

"The plan to expand Kapuk Village into Kapuk Village, South Kapuk Village, and Kapuk Timur Village is an alternative to solving problems so that public services are closer, faster, and evenly distributed," said Uus.
