The Perpetrators Of The Destruction Of The Yogyakarta Regional Police During The End Of August Riots Were Arrested

YOGYAKARTA - The Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of the Yogyakarta Special Region Police (DIY) arrested PA (20), the alleged perpetrator of the destruction and burning of the Yogyakarta Regional Police Headquarters facility during the riots on August 29.

Head of Public Relations of the Yogyakarta Regional Police, Kombes Ihsan, said that PA was arrested at a house in Kalasan, Sleman, on Wednesday (24/9).

"The perpetrator who has been detained has the initials PA (20 years), the address according to the North Java Klaten ID card. PA was arrested at a house in Kalasan Sleman on Wednesday, September 24, 2025," said Ihsan as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 30.

According to Ihsan, investigators also secured a number of pieces of evidence, one of which was video footage which became digital evidence in revealing the role of PA related to the destruction and burning of the DIY Police Headquarters facility.

For his actions, PA was charged with Article 170 of the Criminal Code concerning Violence Against People or Goods, Article 187 of the Criminal Code concerning Burns, and Article 406 of the Criminal Code on Destruction, with a penalty of more than five years in prison.

"Against PA, detention has been carried out. Currently, we are still investigating the involvement of other rioters and we will inform them of their progress," said Ihsan.

The riots at the Yogyakarta Regional Police Headquarters on August 29-30, 2025, previously damaged a number of public facilities, including the SPKT room, SKCK room, ATM machine, and fence, with a total loss estimated at around Rp28 billion.
