Model Y Present In India, Tesla Relys On Production From Shanghai Gigafactory
JAKARTA Tesla officially started the delivery of Model Y in India. The first unit that customers receive is the result of the production of Shanghai Gigafactory, one of Tesla's main factories in China.
As Rushlane reported on Tuesday, September 30, this news was also confirmed by Tesla's Global Vice President, Grace Tao, who said that production from Shanghai was chosen for cost efficiency. With a relatively affordable workforce and the availability of local parts, Model Y is the Tesla model with the lowest production costs at the plant. Shanghai Gigafactory itself serves not only the domestic Chinese market, but also an export hub to various countries, including India.

Not only presenting cars, Tesla is also starting to prepare supporting infrastructure in India. The company will expand its Supercharger network to ensure the driving experience remains comfortable. Customers can charge Model Y at home through a wall connector that supports Wi-Fi and OTA software updates, or on Tesla's Supercharger network while traveling.
The advantage is that Superchargers are able to charge up to increase the distance from 275 km in just 15 minutes. Currently, Tesla already has more than 70,000 Superchargers worldwide, making it the largest fast charging network one brand has. Interestingly, Tesla cars will automatically show the location of the nearest charging station as well as the best route to achieve it.
For the Indian market, the Model Y is offered in two options: the standard variant of rear wheel drive and the long range variant with a longer distance. Tesla is also preparing a Full Self-Driving feature option that can be added in the future through an update.
