DPR Will Involve Labor Unions To Discuss New Employment Bill

JAKARTA - The Indonesian House of Representatives is committed to making a new draft labor law (RUU Ketenagakerjaan) and involving trade unions and laborers in its discussion until it is passed into law.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, as a result of the conclusion of the audience meeting of the leadership of the DPR with the Presidium of the Labor Union Coalition - Labor Party at the DPR Building today. This hearing meeting was to hear input and deliver Draft of the Employment Bill prepared by KSP-PB.

The meeting chaired by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Saan Mustopa, and Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the House of Representatives, Yahya Zaini, was held in the House of Representatives Commission V Meeting Room, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 30.

The meeting was also attended by the leadership of the Legislative Council of the Republic of Indonesia, the leadership of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives together with the Indonesian Minister of Manpower Yassierli, the Indonesian Minister of Law Supratman Andi Atas, and the Minister of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers, Mukhtarudin.

"After we heard the input and then we also asked for consideration from the DPR's Expert Board, and have reviewed matters relating to the decision of the Constitutional Court judge, the first is that the DPR will make a new law on the workforce in accordance with the Constitutional Court's decision," said Dasco.

"Secondly, a formulating team will be formed that will involve trade unions, trade union confederations with the DPR and the government," he continued.

Third, the DPR will encourage the widest public participation in the interests of forming a new Employment Law.

"So as previously stated by Mr. Hasan (Chairman of Baleg), that in order for this law to be perfect and good, we will encourage public participation," said Dasco.

"So please understand, like the Criminal Procedure Code, we continue to accept public participation until then we can really formulate so that we will ratify one law that is really expected by all of us," continued the Daily Chair of Gerindra.

Dasco also asked for help from trade unions and confederations in Indonesia to assist in the formulation of the new Employment Bill.

"And also we will receive as much public participation as possible, including from various trade unions in Indonesia," concluded Dasco.
