When Is The Right Time To Consult To Doctor Nutrition?

JAKARTA - Knowing the daily nutritional needs and whether it has met it is very important for the overall health of the body. By knowing this, a person can prevent obesity or a malnourished body.

Therefore, it is highly recommended to consult a nutritionist even though you have not felt any disorder in the body. Consulting with a nutritionist does not have to have obesity problems and others, because prior consultation can prevent these health problems.

According to dr. Maya Surjadjaja, Sp.GK, M. Nutrition, from the Indonesian Clinical Nutrition Doctors Association (PDGKI), not only obesity, thin bodies also require assistance from nutrition doctors.

"A person whose body is too fat or too thin, also has to go to a nutritionist. Because, to a nutritionist, it's not only people who are obese or fat, who are too thin too," said Maya, when met in Kuningan, Jakarta, written on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.

This is because people with low weight can also experience serious problems due to certain malnutrition.

"If people who are too thin also need to check themselves. Doctors will see what nutrients and nutrition are lacking in their bodies," he added.

Therefore, it is highly recommended that the Indonesian people check with a nutrition doctor from an early age, do not wait for certain health problems. Moreover, so far people tend to delay going to a doctor until their condition gets worse.

"The problem is that not all of us realize that he needs to go to a doctor. Most Indonesians just want to go to a doctor if for example the illness is severe," Maya continued.

Meanwhile, the simplest way to find out that the body is experiencing serious problems is to check the body mass index (IMT) and the waist circumference. The normal female waist circumference is 80 cm and for men it is 90 cm.

For IMT, based on Asian standards, the overweight category is set at 23-25. If it has passed 25, it has been categorized as obesity.
