50 Employees Lost Work Due To MBG Makassar Kitchen Closure

The Kitchen of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) for the free nutritious food program (MBG) 02 Panakkukang, Makassar City, South Sulawesi, has stopped operating. As a result, more than 50 workers or employees were forced to be laid off.

SPPG MBG program located on Jalan Andi Pangerang Pettarani 2, Tamamaung Village, Panakkukang District previously provided free nutritious meals for more than 10 schools with a total production of around 3,500 servings per day.

The SPPG kitchen, which has been operating since February 2025 under the auspices of the Fatima Work Hand Foundation, has been closed for the past week and no longer distributes free nutritious food to beneficiaries of elementary school students. This is thought to have happened due to the polemic of the ceiling of Rp. 6,500 per serving.

"I also don't know exactly why it's closed, but I heard about the ceiling budget. What I usually hear is Rp. 10,000, but I don't know now why it can be Rp. 6,500," said one employee, Sri Bulan, Monday (29/9/2025).

As a result of the closure of the SPPG kitchen, as many as 50 employees who are generally local residents and widows are now unemployed. "Hopefully, they will operate quickly again, because many employees here are making a living, many widows are working here," he said.

The spike in mass poisoning cases from the MBG program forced the government to act decisively. A number of problematic SPPGs or MBG kitchens were temporarily closed for evaluation and thorough investigation.

"The problematic SPPG is temporarily closed, an evaluation and investigation is carried out," said the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, Zulkifli Hasan, at a press conference at the Ministry of Health's office.

This quick step was decided after a coordination meeting chaired by Zulkifli Hasan with Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, Minister of State Prasetyo Hadi, and the ranks of ministries and the National Nutrition Agency (BGN).
