Britain Issues New Sanctions For Iran, Targets Nuclear To Energy Program Officials

JAKARTA - The British government has imposed sanctions on dozens of individuals and entities linked to Iran.

The decision follows similar steps taken by the United Nations (UN) and the European Union aimed at curbing what Britain calls Iran's nuclear proliferation efforts.

Britain, France, and Germany initiated the reimposition of sanctions against Iran on the UN Security Council on charges of breach of the 2015 deal aimed at halting the development of the nuclear bomb. Iran denies it has attempted to develop nuclear weapons.

Reported by Reuters, on Monday, September 29, Britain added 71 new names to its sanctions list, including senior officials on Iran's nuclear program as well as key financial and energy institutions.

The United Nations has previously reimposed arms embargoes and other sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program, following a process triggered by European powers that Tehran has warned will respond with a strong response.

Those affected by British sanctions will now be subject to asset freezes, financial restrictions, and travel bans.
