Gojek And Tokopedia Officially Merged Become GoTo Group
JAKARTA - Ride-hailing service provider Gojek has finally announced a merger with Tokopedia, a pioneer of e-commerce services in Indonesia. The merger created a new giant technology company in Indonesia.
Based on the official information shared by the company, both companies will create a holding company called GoTo Group. The agreement also received support from shareholders. These include Google and Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.
GoTo Group will provide several services at once. Consists of ride-hailing, fintech, to online shopping and delivery. Making GoTo Group the first platform in Southeast Asia to provide three essential services in one ecosystem.
"The GoTo ecosystem covers 2 percent of Indonesia's GDP1 and will continue to grow. Serving 270 million Indonesian consumers, as well as other fast-growing and growing markets in Southeast Asia", the company wrote in an official statement Monday, May 17.

Quoting Bloomberg, Gojek's co-Chief Executive Officer Andre Soelistyo will be in charge of leading GoTo Group. Meanwhile, Patrick Cao from Tokopedia serves as President of GoTo.
William Tanuwijaya, CEO of Tokopedia, will continue his role by leading the e-commerce line, which he has been doing since 2009. Meanwhile, Gojek co-CEO Kevin Aluwi will also continue his leadership in Gojek's ride-hailing and delivery services.
GoTo Group also offers a new line under the name GoTo Financial. This line of financial services is planned to be led directly by Soelistyo. The form of its own services will include GoPay as well as business solutions for business partners.

Andre Soelistyo stated that this merger will have an impact on both driver-partners and merchants. It is estimated that the revenue opportunities obtained by driver-partners will be greater thanks to sending orders from Tokopedia users.
"While sellers and merchant partners of various business scales will also get a variety of benefits and opportunities to improve the business", explained Andre in the official statement.
Therefore, Andre also stated that the presence of GoTo Group will encourage financial inclusion in Indonesia and Southeast Asia.
The merger between the two tech giants is nothing new. News of the merger emerged after negotiations between Gojek and rival Grab Holding Inc. failed halfway through. Therefore, the merger between Gojek and Tokopedia is also referred to as the largest business collaboration in Indonesia.
Because this merger allows holding companies to create a super app. Through the super app, all services can be provided to the community.
