Radioactive Substance Pollution Found In Banten, Called From Nuclear Reactors
JAKARTA - Pollution of radioactive substances was found in the modern industrial area of Cikande, Serang, Banten. The Nuclear Energy Supervisory Agency (Bapeten) detected exposures at seven to eight points outside PT Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS), which previously grew in the spotlight due to cases of shrimp exposure to radiation.
Regarding the pollution of radioactive substances, the Ministry of Environment has examined it. The Minister of Environment (LH), Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, said that the radioactive cesium-137 was the result of a nuclear reactor.
The nuclear reactor is thought to have entered Indonesia because it was not taken seriously. He said that the nuclear reactor may have originated from other countries.

This radiative pollution from cesium-137 is based on the explanation that these experts are only produced from nuclear reactors. So in our place there is no nuclear reactor so it is possible to come from other countries that then enter Indonesia, lose control, are not seriously controlled," said Hanif, quoted from Instagram @nowdots, on Monday, September 29, 2025.
The area where radioactive pollution was found is now in the handling of the Ministry of Environment and several authorized agencies.
To overcome the pollution of radioactive substances, an initial stage of handling will be carried out. The initial treatment is the contamination of radioactive substances from the polluted environment of residents.
The government is currently trying its best to secure the affected areas. This is very important for the safety and comfort of local residents' activities.
